In the early days the Portsmouth speedway team raced at the Wessex Stadium in Coopers Garden. Their first meeting was held on 10th August 1929, with a second one following a week later and, remarkably, a programme for that meeting has survived and is shown below.
The final meeting at the Wessex Stadium was held on 29th November 1930 and there was a lapse in speedway racing for 5 years.
